Education for Peace for the 21st Century

Our publications may be purchased individually, or as part of a comprehensive , three-step Education for Peace® Program. Books for young people are suitable for readers aged 8-16; adult books for age 17 and above.

The intent of the Education for Peace® Series of children's books is to help young people understand conflict—in their lives and in the world around them—and to create humane, nonviolent ways to deal with it. These books are written realistically and nonjudgementally to allow for direct contact with the reality of conflict as it occurs in children's lives. And it is quite clear that violence is indeed a daily part of the lives of many children.

In America in 1990, the National Safety Council reported that 15% of all children are involved in bully-victim problems, and 10% are regularly harassed or attacked by bullies. By 1993, when MetLife released their national survey of American teachers and students entitled "Violence in America's Public School," the problem had worsened. The report stated, "Nearly one-fourth of America's public school students say they've been victims of an act of violence in or around school." Based on current Census figures, the number of children aged 7-13 who are victims of bullying is a staggering 6.4 million children. More must be done for these young people.

The Education for Peace® books have won praise—from educators, counselors, parents and others who work or live with young people—as practical tools for helping children deal with bullies, appreciate and respect multicultural diversity, and understand the psychological roots of conflict and violence.
